2003 Sorrel Mare

“Lena” is our herds head mare. She was foaled in May of 2003 by AQHA stallion LJSR Keokuk, a grandson of Docs Malbeck - 1977 CRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity World Champion Stallion, 1978 Cow Palace Hackamore Classic Champion, sire of reining and cutting horses earning over $175,000 in the futurity and Sire of AQHA Versatility Award winner 1974-2004. Unfortunately, Lena is out of a GRADE palomino mare so we are currently looking into registering her with the AHQHR (American Half Quarter Horse Registry).

Lena was purchased by a family member as a weanling. She was green broke to ride as a 2 year old and used intermittently on the ranch until she was 4. Unfortunately, due to no fault of her own, she was put on the back burner and given to us in 2015.

This mare is a cowboy’s dream, she is incredibly intelligent, well mannered, built like a tank, definitely not afraid of a 1300 lb. bull and an easy keeper. With her herd she is very sweet and attentive to all the horses but also doesn’t have an issue putting them in their place. I really liked her and thought it was such a shame she spent most of her life as a pasture pet. I decided to take a chance and breed her in 2016. In the spring of 2017 she had her first foal, Miss Storm, and the pairing made one of the best minded foals I have ever seen.
